|Coyote Expert To Address Seventh Annual Maine Wildlife Appreciation Day|
The Wildlife Alliance of Maine is pleased to announce that we are again sponsoring Maine Wildlife Appreciation Day which will be held this year on Thursday, March 8, from 9 A.M. until noon in the State House Hall of Flags.
This year's featured speaker will be Dr. Jon Way Ph.D. Dr. Way has authored and co-authored numerous peer reviewed publications on coyotes and is the author of Suburban Howls, a book chronicling his years of studying coyote ecology and behavior in eastern Massachusetts. http://www.easterncoyoteresearch.com
Dr. Way's presentation will begin at 10:00 A.M. and will include science-based, factual information about coyotes and their behavior. We encourage the public and lawmakers to attend to learn the facts and myths about coyotes and so-called coyote "control".
Maine Wildlife Appreciation Day was established in 2006 in recognition of the importance of living wildlife to Maine's economy and environment. Wildlife watchers spend more than $800 million annually in Maine and help to support thousands of Maine jobs. Maine is a national leader in non-consumptive wildlife associated recreation with more wildlife watchers than hunters and fishermen combined.
There will also be numerous displays set up throughout the morning including several beautifully mounted specimens of Maine's fish and wildlife.
Participating organizations/entities will include:
Endangered Species Coalition
Maine Wolf Coalition
Friends of Merrymeeting Bay
Down East Nature Tours
Maine Friends of Animals
Maine Dept. of Inland Fisheries and Wildlife
Humane Society of the United States
Wildlife Alliance of Maine
RESTORE: The North Woods
The Wildlife Alliance of Maine is dedicated to advocacy on behalf of Maine's wildlife and promotion of a conservation ethic that represents non-consumptive wildlife users. For more information about MWAD 2012 please contact John Glowa at (207) 445-2360.
