Opinion: Millinocket town manager at odds with his own community
Fact: Millinocket Town Manager Eugene Conlogue opposes a national park in the Katahdin region.

Fact: national parks are economic engines.

Fact: the unemployment rate in July in Penobscot County was 8.8%, which is even higher than a year ago.

Fact: the unemployment rate in Piscataquis County for July was 9.7%.

Fact: the unemployment rate in July in Maine statewide was 7.6%.

Fact: the Katahdin region has chronically had a higher unemployment rate than the most of the rest of the state. In 2011, the unemployment rate for the Millinocket Labor Market Area was 17.8%.

Opinion: a municipal official working outside his public position through a private advocacy organization against the economic interests of his own community may be a violation of Maine's conflict of interest law.
