Birding in Boothbay Harbor, May 16
Birding in Boothbay Harbor, May 16
My husband Jeff and I are lifelong birders and would love for you to join us Saturday for spring birding on the Maine coast, where brightly colored warblers, grosbeaks, orioles, and sparrows are arriving back from their wintering grounds in the southern U.S. and beyond. Lobster Cove Meadows Preserve, a Boothbay Region Land Trust property, is an easy walk where we will have opportunity to see and hear these returning migrants as well as wetland species like showy Wood Ducks, trilling Swamp Sparrows, and Green Herons.

Meet us at the Lobster Cove Meadows parking lot at 8:00 a.m., where we’ll have coffee and snacks waiting for you. Our bird walk should be over by 10:30 a.m.. For directions to Lobster Cove Meadows, please visit www.bbrlt.org/bbrlt_properties.html. Kids are welcome! Binoculars and bug repellant encouraged.

A little about us, your trip leaders: I’m NRCM’s public affairs director, and I have published hundreds of natural history and other articles and was coeditor of the Cornell Lab of Ornithology’s Birder’s Life List and Diary. You can follow my blog, Mama Bird, at Maine Today’s Raising Maine website www.raisingmaine.com/mamabird I write about birds, birding, and Maine's spectacular environment that is so essential to raising healthy and happy broods. Jeff is an ornithologist, birder, and writer who serves as senior scientist for the Boreal Songbird Initiative, Cornell Lab of Ornithology Visiting Fellow, and Boothbay Region Land Trust board member. He’s a former member of the championship Cornell Lab of Ornithology’s Swarovski Sapsuckers World Series of Birding team. His book, Birder’s Conservation Handbook: 100 North American Birds at Risk, was published in 2008. His blog is at http://www.borealbirds.org/blog/.

Hope to see you Saturday! Please feel free to contact me at allison@nrcm.org or (207) 430-0180 if you have any questions about this event.
