Sustainable Forestry Workshop, Sept 11-12
This two day class will cover many hands-on skills and management tools including innovative stream crossings, water management/controls, bridges, portable sawmill demo, pruning, small scale harvesting (equipment demonstration- forwarder, tractor, winch, dozer, firewood processor), wetlands delineation and forest ecology, timber stand improvement, forestry cost-share programs, silviculture, recreational uses of forest land, log cabin built on-site from low-grade pine, and road repair.

Cost is $20 per person. Primitive accommodations and camping are available at HVNC (see hvnc.org for price information). Workshop 11-5, Friday, 9-12 on Saturday. For more information and reservations contact David Hobson at 778-6260 or dahobson@gmail.com.

The Hidden Valley Nature Center, located in Jefferson, is a member based, community supported organization with 800 acres of diverse habitat, many small ponds and vernal pools, miles of trails, and a range of low-impact sustainable forestry projects both completed and underway. It is dedicated to providing educational and recreational opportunities to the community throughout the year. Camping at Yurt, Hermit Hut, 2 Dog Hut or two pond-side campsites.
