Why Wild Places Need to Stay Wild, Mar 10
A PANEL DISCUSSION WITH:

BERND HEINRICH author of numerous books, including the bestselling Winter World; Mind of the Raven and The Trees in my Forest. Heinrich has made major contributions to the study of insect physiology and behavior as well as bird behavior. He is a professor emeritus in the biology department at the University of Vermont.

RICHARD FECTEAU was co-chair of the Maine Mountain Conference. Richard is the Bigelow District overseer for the Maine Appalachian Trail Club, a tetherer for Maine Handicapped Skiing, a board member of the Friends of the Boundary Mountains and is the chair of the Friends of Bigelow. As a small woodlot owner, Richard is very interested in the health of Maine's forests, especially on public lands.

ROBERT KIMBER author of A Canoeist's Sketchbook and other books, has been writing about the Maine outdoors and Maine environmental issues for over thirty years. He received a Natural Resources Council of Maine Environmental Award in 2003 for his efforts to protect wilderness in Maine.

MEG GILMARTIN works with the Native Forest Network and Friends of the Boundary Mountains to protect the forested and undeveloped lands of the North Woods. Meg strives to live her life by the Earth First! philosophies of deep ecology and biocentrism!

These panelists will be critiquing the development of our remote regions. Followed by a question and answer period.
