Guidance Maps for Statewide Standards for Timber Harvesting in Shoreland Areas now available
The Maine Forest Service has produced maps for the each of the 248 towns in which statewide standards for timber harvesting and related activities in shoreland areas took effect on January 1, 2013.

These maps are intended to help foresters, loggers and landowners determine where the standards apply. Maps currently are available for download in PDF format. Shape files are in preparation and will be released as soon as they are ready.

Please note that these maps are advisory and that actual ground conditions determine how and where the rules apply. Please also note that these maps only apply to timber harvesting and related activities in shoreland areas. For all other land uses you must consult the shoreland zoning map at the town office.

Maps can be accessed at: http://www.maine.gov/doc/mfs/fpm/swstds/sws_maps.html.

For questions specific to the maps, contact Greg Miller at 207-287-8121.

For other questions on statewide standards, contact Keith Kanoti at 207-287-1073 or your local District forester: http://www.maine.gov/doc/mfs/fpm/ff/foresters.htm.

For more information on statewide standards for timber harvesting and related activities, visit the MFS statewide standards website at http://www.maine.gov/doc/mfs/fpm/swstds/sws.html.
